ILOILO CITY – A former barangay captain in La Paz District here was gunned down on Monday morning, August 5.
The Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) identified the victim as Ernie Poral, former captain of Barangay Ingore.

Investigation said the 65-year-old victim was purchasing chicken feed in a market in Barangay Baldoza at around 7 a.m. when a man onboard a motorcycle arrived and shot him.
Poral fell to the ground and the gunman shot him again. The victim sustained two bullet wounds and died on the spot.
Police Col. Kim Legada, ICPO chief, ordered the La Paz Police Station to investigate the alleged threats on the victim.
The gunman was reportedly a contract killer.
Police Major Shella Mae Sangrines, ICPO spokesperson, said investigators are determining the motive for killing Poral.
City officials condemned the broad daylight murder.
I condemn in the strongest terms possible the murder of former Barangay Captain Ernie Poral. I call on the police to exhaust all means to identify and arrest the perpetrator. Violence has no place in a civilized society, said Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas in a statement.
