Cop dies, another wounded in rescue of two Chinese kidnap victims in Pampanga

Two foreign gunmen killed an operative of the Anti-Kidnapping Group of the Philippine National Police (PNP-AKG) and wounded another policeman following a shootout that erupted during a rescue of two Chinese kidnap-for-ransom victims in Angeles City in Pampanga.

Police Staff Sgt. Nelson Santiago was declared dead at the Angeles University Foundation Medical Center while Police Chief Master Sgt. Edden Accad was wounded during the clash.

PNP-AKG director Brig. Gen. Cosme Abrenica said the operation stemmed from the coordination initiated by the Chinese Police Attache regarding a case of kidnapping for ransom involving Chinese nationals as both victims and suspects.

He said the kidnapping occurred in Makati City on Saturday, Aug. 3, adding that the victims were immediately taken to a safehouse in Angeles City Pampanga.

Based on the report, the suspects demanded a ransom from the family of the two female Chinese victims equivalent to P8 million.

AKG operatives then swooped down to the safehouse in Pampanga which triggered a gun battle with the two Chinese suspects.

Abrenica said the two victims were rescued while the two Chinese gunmen were arrested. They were identified as Hu Kai and Ryu Don.

Seized from them were two hand guns, drug paraphernalia and jungle knives.
