BOC probes alleged recycling of seized vape products

Customs Commissioner Bienvenido Y. Rubio has instructed the Intelligence Group to launch an immediate investigation into the alledged recycling and resale of seized vape products.

In a memorandum dated July 29, Rubio ordered Bureau of Customs (BOC) Deputy Commissioner for Intelligence Group Jubymax R. Uy to conduct a thorough fact-finding investigation regarding the alleged illicit activity.

Rubio said the primary objective of his directive is to validate the allegations and uncover any involvement of BOC personnel, detailing their individual and collective responsibilities in the matter.

The investigation will also evaluate the potential administrative and criminal liabilities linked to the accusations, he said.

The seized items have been placed under a "safekeeping order" through a Mission Order, and the Intelligence Group has been tasked with providing weekly status updates and a comprehensive fact-finding report within 30 days.

In response to Rubio's directive, the Intelligence Group has vowed to conduct an unbiased and meticulous investigation.

Meanwhile, Rubio assured the public that the recently confiscated counterfeit goods in Binondo, Manila, valued at around P11 billion, are securely held.

These items will follow the necessary seizure and forfeiture procedures as outlined in the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act and relevant regulations.
