‘Unbelievable, historic’: OVP, envoys hail Yulo for double Olympic gold


The Office of the Vice President (OVP) and several foreign ambassadors on Monday, Aug. 5, congratulated Filipino gymnast Carlos Yulo for the historic achievement of clinching two gold medals in the Paris Olympics.

“Saludo ang Office of the Vice President kay Carlos Yulo, ang pambato ng Pilipinas na kauna-unahang nakapagkamit ng makasaysayang Olympic Gold Medal sa larangan ng Artistic Gymnastics sa kasalukuyang ginaganap na Paris 2024 Olympics (The Office of the Vice President salutes Carlos Yulo, the Philippines’ bet who became the first person to clinch the historic Olympic Gold Medal in the field of Artistic Gymnastics in the current Paris 2024 Olympics),” the OVP wrote on Facebook.
 

Japanese Ambassador in Manila Endo Kazuya lauded the history done by Yulo.
 

“Absolutely stunned to witness yet another awe-inspiring performance by Carlos Yulo!,” the envoy said.
 

“History has been made for the (Philippines) as you become the nation’s first two-time #Olympics champion. (Japan) celebrates your tremendous victory & we can’t wait to see what you do next!,” he added.
 

The ambassador also posted photos of Yulo with former Japanese envoys to Manila Haneda Koji and Koshikawa Kazuhiko.
 

European Union Ambassador to Manila Luc Veron remarked that he was touched upon hearing the Philippine national anthem being played during the Olympics for two consecutive days.
 

“TWO in a row! Hearing Lupang Hinirang being played twice at #Paris2024  is such a touching scene to witness. Very well done, Caloy and congratulations to the Philippines for the historic double-win!,” he wrote.
 

“Napakahusay (Very well done)!,” Veron added.
 

German Ambassador Andreas Pfaffernoschke also sent his congratulations.
 

“Congratulations from (Germany). What an outstanding athlete! Second gold medal within 2 days for the (Philippines),” he posted.
 

Canadian Ambassador David Hartman commented how “unbelievable” Yulo’s win was. 
 

“Unbelievable!! A true champion and inspiration for the nation!! Mabuhay (Long live)!,” he said.
 

United States Ambassador MaryKay Carlson, who tweeted on Saturday a photo of her television screen as she watched Yulo’s men’s floor final, also posted: “WhooHoo!”
 

Yulo, on Sunday night, Aug. 4, made history after clinching his second gold medal in the Paris Olympics. He now has a gold medal in both men’s floor and vault exercises.
 

This brought to three the number of the Philippines’ Olympics gold medals after Hidilyn Diaz’s first gold during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
