PCSO General Manager Mel Robles reads his statement in relation to the filing of charges against vlogger 'Maharlika", or Claire Contreras, who allegedly maligned him and his family for a year now through her YouTube channel, in a press briefing in Quezon City on Sunday, Aug. 4, 2024.
Philippine Charity Sweepstake Office (PCSO) General Manager Mel Robles has filed charges against vlogger Claire Contreras, popularly known as “Maharlika”, for allegedly maligning him and his family through her YouTube channel.
In a press briefing in Quezon City, Robles said he has been subjected to various allegations of Contreras in the past one year that include allegations of corruption and assisting terrorists.
The last straw that prompted him to file cases of defamation, defamation per se and invasion of privacy, according to Robles, was when Contreras allegedly claimed that he was planning to assassinate her.
“For reasons unknown to us, she continues to spread malicious lies against us, while also calling me various names that were meant to deride and denigrate my reputation,” said Robles.
“We are law-abiding citizens who did nothing wrong to harm her in any way, It is our right therefore to defend our names and reputations, especially my wife who is a private citizen and has dedicated herself to raising our family and in supporting charitable causes,” he added.
The cases were filed before the Central District Court of California, with Robles explaining that it was there since Contreras was based in the United States.
Robles added that his decision to file a case is aimed at protecting his name and the reputation of his family.
He explained that the decision was made since he sensed that Contreras would continue to attack him and his family.
