Filipinos weren’t the only ones celebrating gymnast Carlos Yulo’s Olympic gold medal win in Paris, ambassadors took to social media to congratulate the athlete’s historic performance and victory.

Japanese Ambassador in Manila Endo Kazuya expressed delight at Yulo’s win, and cited Japan’s role in his journey.
“Congratulations to Carlos Yulo for your gold-medal win! Incredibly floored by your performance tonight & (Japan) is honored to have been part of your historic victory for the (Philippines),“ he wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
Since 2016 to 2023, Yulo was under Japanese coach Munehiro Kugimiya. They parted ways amicably because of personal reasons, but the Filipino gymnast said he will always be grateful to his former coach.
German Ambassador Andreas Pffafernoschke also posted on X to celebrate Yulo’s achievement.
“Congratulations from (Germany) to Carlos Yulo and the (Philippines) for the gold medal won today! What a wonderful achievement and an outstanding performance!,” he wrote.
British envoy Laure Beaufils called the gold medal win “historic.”
“Massive congratulations to Carlos Yulo for this historic Gold Medal!!! Proud na proud kami sa iyo (We are very proud of you),” she said.
Canadian Ambassador David Hartman also lauded Yulo’s “remarkable achievement.”
“What a remarkable achievement! Congratulations to Carlos Yulo on your tremendous gold medal performance!,” he posted.
United States Ambassador MaryKay Carlson also posted a video of her TV screen as Yulo’s win was announced.
“Loved watching this historic moment! Congratulations on winning GOLD at the #Paris2024 #OlympicGames,” she said.
French envoy Marie Fontanel, whose country is hosting the olympics, added that she couldn’t wait for Yulo’s return to Manila.
“Bravo Carlos Yulo for this magnificent Olympic gold medal in gymnastics! See you soon in Manila to celebrate your return!!,” she wrote in French.
On Saturday night (Manila time), Yulo became only the second Filipino to clinch a gold medal at the Olympics.
He won the gold for floor exercise in gymnastics, but would have another chance to a medal in the vault finals event later.
