Speaker Martin Romualdez says the House of Representatives is set to give Paris Olympics gold medal winner, gymnast Carlos Yulo a juicy P3-million cash reward--and that's just for starters.

This was bared in a statement Sunday, Aug. 4 by the House leader as he hailed Yulo's gold medal-clinching performance in the men’s artistic gymnastics floor exercise at the ongoing Paris games. 

“Today, we celebrate a monumental achievement that resonates deeply with every Filipino heart. Carlos Edriel Yulo has not only soared to the pinnacle of athletic excellence but has also emerged as a sports hero and national treasure, igniting a beacon of hope and inspiration for all Filipinos,” Romualdez said. 

Referring to the P3-million cash incentive, Romualdez said: “Caloy has earned this reward through sheer hard work and unmatched talent. This incentive is a testament to our unwavering support for Filipino athletes who strive for greatness on the global stage." 

The Leyte 1st district congressman said the rich sum is on top of other pledges that might come from the 300-plus strong House. 

Yulo will also be conferred a congressional medal for his exceptional achievement and contribution to Philippine sports. 

“Caloy’s dedication, talent, and unwavering spirit have brought immense pride and honor to our country. His tireless commitment to his sport, his relentless pursuit of excellence, and his ability to rise above challenges make him a true embodiment of the Filipino spirit. His achievements remind us all of the heights we can reach with perseverance and hard work,” Romualdez said. 

“We celebrate Caloy’s outstanding contribution and his role as an inspiration to future generations of athletes. He is not just a champion; he is our sports hero and national treasure whose legacy will inspire countless young Filipinos," he further said. 

 

Yulo's gold medal is the first hardware for Team Philippines in Paris. He could potentially win another gold Sunday night in the vault competition, where he is a favorite.

The House has pledged P3 million for gold medalists, P2 million for silver medalists, and P1 million for bronze medalists in the Olympics.
