LRT-1 scheduled for final weekend shutdown ahead of Cavite extension launch

The Light Rail Transit Line-1 (LRT-1) will undergo its final weekend shutdown on Aug. 31 and Sept. 1 as the Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) completes the first phase of the Cavite extension project.

The LRMC said the closure is a crucial step in finalizing preparations before the new extension opens to the public.

Previous temporary shutdowns on Aug. 16, 17, 24, and 25 have made significant strides in the project's development.

During these periods, key milestones were reached, including the verification of automatic train supervision and interlocking systems, updates to the signalling baseline, and testing of communication infrastructure for the extended line.

Additional progress includes the installation of new screen displays, the migration to a new signaling system, and the integration of 29 train sets for safety and operational exercises.

The advancements underscore the project's commitment to enhancing service and safety for future passengers.
