CAUAYAN CITY, Isabela – A farmer allegedly died from a snake bite while gathering bamboo shoots or “labong” in Barangay Lalauanan, Tumauini, Isabela on Thursday, August 29.
Police said the victim, Primo Gabriel Lungayan, a resident of Barangay Lalauanan, went out to gather bamboo shoots.
However, he failed to return home and his family reported him missing to the police.
Lungayan was found dead under a bamboo tree during a search operation on Friday morning, August 30.
He had four suspected snake bites in his hand.
Police said they see no indication of foul play in the victim's death. They are awaiting the result of the post- mortem examination on the victim’s cadaver that will determine the cause of death.
Meanwhile, a 49-year-old farmer drowned in a fish pond in Sitio Capaoayan, Barangay Tabug, Batac City on Thursday.
Police identified the victim as Romel Dadia, 49, a resident of Barangay Tabug.
The body of the victim was found by his brother who was constructing a fence around the fish pond.
Investigation said the victim had been drinking alcohol alone until 12 noon on Wednesday, August 28.
Police said Dadia could have fallen and drowned on the fishpond he often visits while walking.
