Erica Staunton delivered in the pivotal moments of the last two sets and erupted for 38 points to carry the fight for the Cool Smashers, who booked their 12th finals appearance in the history of the league.

“It feels amazing. I’m just happy and proud to be part of this team,” said Staunton, who unloaded 36 points on attacks.

With the feat, Creamline was also one win away from their ninth championship title as they face unbeaten Akari in the winner-take-all finals on Monday, Sept. 2, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The Cool Smashers also drew strength from Bernadeth Pons, who poured all her 28 points on attacks, while Michele Gumabao also provided enough assistance and added 10 points.

MJ Perez tried to carry the cudgels for Cignal and scored 32 points, but her efforts went futile as Creamline held its composure to slowly regain its bearings for the all-important win.
