Ramon “Tats” Suzara has been elected as the new Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) President to become the ninth and second Filipino to hold the prestigious position.

Suzara secured a total of 48 votes out of 63 including 20 proxy votes to be given the reins as the new man on top of the Asian volleyball governing body on Friday, Aug. 30, in an election held in Bangkok, Thailand.
Suzara has had his hands full since becoming the first president of the then newly-established Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) that has been working to usher in international success and exposure for the local scene by bringing in world-class competitions on home soil since 2021.
The PNVF chief also serves as International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) secretary of volleyball empowerment commission where he's had good relations with the international governing body of the sport.
Suzara was responsible for the Philippines' three-year contract of hosting the fan favorite Men’s Volleyball Nations League (VNL) which ended in June and drew mammoth crowds all week long during its staging at the Smart Araneta Coliseum and Mall of Asia Arena.
Following the success of the country’s hosting gig, it paved the way for Suzara to win the bid for the hosting rights of the FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship next year that came with an outright berth to compete in for the Philippines.
There, the men’s national team will see action in possibly its recent biggest tournament ever.
The success may also be owed to Alas Pilipinas’ historic bronze medal finish in the AVC Women’s Challenge Cup in May followed by an appearance in the FIVB Challenger’s Cup the following month.
