Rainy week ahead due to 'habagat', potential weather disturbance
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the southwest monsoon, or “habagat,” and a potential weather disturbance will bring a rainy start to September, according to its weekly outlook issued on Friday, Aug. 30.
On Friday, PAGASA said the habagat will bring mostly cloudy skies, scattered rains, and thunderstorms to Zambales, Bataan, Occidental Mindoro, and Palawan.
The rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with afternoon or evening rain showers or thunderstorms.
By Saturday, Aug. 31, PAGASA said Palawan will remain mostly cloudy with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms, while the rest of the archipelago will be partly cloudy to cloudy with chances of isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.
From Sunday to Monday, Sept. 1 to 2, PAGASA said the trough or extension of a potential weather disturbance or low pressure area (LPA) east of Visayas, combined with the habagat, may bring mostly cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms to Bicol Region, Mimaropa, Visayas, Northern Mindanao, and Zamboanga Peninsula.
The rest of the country will continue to have partly cloudy to cloudy conditions with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, mostly in the afternoon or evening.
From Tuesday to Friday, Sept. 3 to 6, as the weather disturbance may move generally northwestward, its effects along with the habagat are expected to gradually shift northward.
Luzon, Western Visayas, and Negros Island Region may experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms, while the rest of the archipelago may see partly cloudy to cloudy skies with localized rain showers or thunderstorms.
