Iloilo logs 11 dengue fatalities in August


ILOILO CITY – Eleven persons have died from dengue in the province of Iloilo this month amid an outbreak of the mosquito-borne disease.

The Iloilo Provincial Health Office said 17 individuals have died from dengue from January 1 to August 24, 2024.

Barotac Nuevo had three fatalities, followed by two each in the towns of Badiangan and Miag-ao and Passi City, and one each in Banate, Concepcion, Dingle, Estancia, Igbaras, Lambunao, San Dionisio, and Lambunao.

Iloilo recorded 6,799 dengue cases in the past eight months.

Provincial health chief Dr. Maria Socorro Colmenares-Quiñon said they are closely coordinating with rural health units (RHUs) in the 42 towns and component city of Passi to curb the number of dengue cases.

The IPHO led the intensified the search and destruction of breeding places for dengue-carrying mosquitoes.
