Pedro said Lim’s untimely demise signifies a loss that reverberates within the community and the business sector and resonates throughout the nation.
“His tireless efforts towards the dream of Philippine rice self-sufficiency through pioneering hybrid rice technology from China had left an indelible mark on our nation's agriculture and have benefitted millions of Filipino farmers,” Pedro said.
“His commitment to this noble cause was driven by his unwavering belief in the potential of Filipino ingenuity and the importance of self-reliance,” he added.
Lim, known for his philanthropy, esteemed leadership in business and civic affairs, and recognized as the Father of Philippine Hybrid Rice, was a strong advocate for Philippine agriculture.
Describing Lim as a fervent supporter of Philippines-China friendship and economic cooperation, Pedro emphasized Lim's crucial role in strengthening relations between the two nations.
Pedro highlighted Lim's significant contribution during his leadership as president of the FFCCCII and as chairman of the Filipino Chinese Community Calamity Fund.
Guided by Lim, the fund successfully raised and contributed over P500 million in medical supplies and relief items during the global pandemic and other crises such as typhoons and the disruptions caused by the Taal Volcano.
“Dr. Henry Lim Bon Liong's visionary leadership was evident when he acted as an intermediary for the Philippine government to receive the first-ever timely delivery and donation of one million life-saving anti-Covid vaccines from the government of China,” Pedro said.
He added, “His actions not only helped save countless lives but also demonstrated his profound dedication to the well-being of our nation.”
Lim, a talented and proficient entrepreneur who spoke multiple languages, graduated with an engineering degree from the University of the Philippines Diliman and also from Harvard Business School.
“His academic achievements were matched by his generosity and visionary leadership. He was a source of hope and of inspiration to many, and his legacy will continue to influence and guide us,” Pedro said.
