Communist fighter killed in Camarines Sur clash

LEGAZPI CITY, Albay â€“ A New People's Army rebel was killed in an encounter with soldiers in Barangay Tagpocol, San Fernando town, Camarines Sur province on Saturday, August 3.

The fatality was identified as Jerrymie Pustillos, alias Russel, member of the Kilusang Larangang Gerilya 1 and Platun 3 of the Sub-regional Committee 5 led by alias Abel.

Major Frank Roldan, chief of the 9th Infantry Division Public Affairs Unit, said that three M16 rifles, two M653 or baby Armalite, and one M203 grenade launcher were recovered after the encounter.

Roldan said that the NPA was conducting extortion activities in the area when they engaged government troopers.

He also bared that they are conducting heightened operations in San Fernando and nearby municipalities to put an end to illegal activities of the NPA.

Roldan called on the NPA to surrender and live a peaceful life, away from illegal activities and crime.
