TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte--House Deputy Majority Leader ACT-CIS Party-list Rep. Erwin Tulfo has debunked the common Filipinos' notion of Speaker Martin Romualdez as a haughty individual who wants nothing to do with the poor.

In one of the side events of the Bagong Pilipinas Serbisyo Fair (BPSF) here at the Tacloban Astrodome Friday, Aug. 2, Tulfo took the microphone and introduced Romualdez to the jam-packed crowd.

Tulfo notes that to some people, the leader of the 300-plus strong House of Representatives seems unapproachable since he belong to "alta sociedad" or high society.

"Hindi naman po niya kasalanan kung pinanganak po siya talagang mayaman na (It's not his fault if he was born rich)," the party-list solon said of Romualdez.

What's important is how Romualdez deals with his fellow Filipinos, the broadcast journalist-turned-congressman said.

"Kung makikilala lamang po ninyo ang atin pong Speaker, may puso po (Once you get to know our Speaker, you'll know that he has a heart)," Tulfo said.

"Kung kaya kung kayo po ay naniniwala po sa aming magkakapatid na Tulfo na matulungin, Ganun din po ang puso ng inyo pong mambabatas, ng inyong Speaker," he added.

(That's why, if you believe that us Tulfo brothers who are helpful, then the heart of the solons, of the Speaker, are the same.)

Tulfo then turned directly to Romualdez and said, "Mr. Speaker, maraming, maraming salamat po, wag po kayong magbabago at tuloy tuloy po ang pagtulong sa inyong mga kababayan."

(Thank you very much Mr. Speaker, don't ever change and keep on helping our countrymen.)

Romualdez, 60, is the nephew of former first lady Imelda Romualdez Marcos and the late former President Ferdinand Marcos Sr. He is the cousin of incumbent President Marcos.

He represents Leyte's 1st district in Congress and is the president of Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD), the biggest party in the House of Representatives.
