One hundred more persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) were transferred last Friday, Aug. 2, from the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City to the Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm (SPPF) in Occidental Mindoro.

Last July, 500 PDLs were also transferred to SPPF as part of the continuous decongestion of NBP for its eventual closure in 2028 and to support the agricultural projects of other operating prison and penal farms (OPPFs).

Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) Director General Gregorio Pio P. Catapang Jr. said that the transfer of the 100 PDLs brought to 7,579, the total number of PDLs that have transferred from the NBP.

Catapang said the 100 PDLs travelled from Batangas port around 4 p.m. last Friday and arrived safely at the SPPF around 10 p.m. on the same day.
