The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is now preparing charges of attempted homicide and direct assault against a sports utility vehicle (SUV) driver who was accused of hitting a traffic enforcer with his car in Taguig City.

MMDA acting chairman Don Artes said the driver appeared before his office on Thursday, Aug, 29, to apologize over the incident which almost killed Allan Harry Sadiua.

“He admitted that he was the one driving the SUV involved in the accident. But we will not let the incident pass, we will still pursue charges against him,” said Artes.

Based on the police investigation, the incident happened along the Sales- East Service Road in Barangay Western Bicutan at around 9 a.m. on Aug. 27.

The SUV first side-swept a ride-hailing motorcycle with a passenger-backrider. The rider placed his motorcycle in front of the SUV to block his way.

Upon seeing the incident, Sadiua responded to the incident but the SUV driver ignored the traffic enforcer and drove away.

The traffic enforcer chased and managed to intercept the SUV. He then stood in front of the hood of the SUV in an effort to prevent the driver from escaping but the vehicle went on.

This led to Sadiua being dragged 500 meters from the road crash incident scene. According to the traffic enforcer, he was able to move away when the SUV started to stop because of slow moving traffic.

Artes said they already asked the Land Transportation Office (LTO) to impose appropriate disciplinary sanctions against the driver of the SUV involved in the road incident.

“A driver's license is a mere privilege, not a right, granted by the state, which if abused and misused may be suspended or revoked by the state, thus, will always yield to the general welfare of the community,” said Artes.

“The driver was escaping responsibility, illustrating that he is undeserving of his driving privilege and as such, should be stripped or suspended thereof until he can show worthiness thereto once again,” he added,
