"The Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index (CMCI) is an annual ranking system that evaluates Philippine cities and municipalities based on key factors like economic dynamism, infrastructure development, government efficiency, and overall competitiveness," San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora said.
"The Most Improved Award recognizes local government units (LGUs) that have demonstrated substantial progress in their CMCI scores compared to the previous year. This accolade highlights San Juan City's commitment to implementing initiatives that have significantly enhanced its overall performance and competitiveness," he added.
Spearheaded by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), the CMCI is an annual ranking of Philippine cities and municipalities developed by the National Competitiveness Council through the Regional Competitiveness Councils with the assistance of USAID (United States Agency for International Development).
Cities and municipalities were ranked based on five criteria or pillars: economic dynamism, government efficiency, infrastructure, resiliency, and innovation.
“The competitiveness of our cities and municipalities is essential to building a creative nation. By excelling in economic dynamism, government efficiency, infrastructure, resiliency, and innovation, local governments create environments where creativity can thrive. This not only enhances the quality of life for residents but also strengthens the Philippines' position as a leading creative nation," Bureau of Competitive Development and Creative Industries Development Office of the DTI OIC Lilian Salonga said.
