Mayor Honey wishes EJ Obiena swift recovery from back injury

Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan wished Manileño Olympian Pole Vaulter EJ Obiena a successful treatment of his back injury and his full recovery.
EJ Obiena announced on August 28 that he is ending his season prematurely due to a recurring back injury.
The world No. 3 pole vaulter said he intended to compete in three more competitions ISTAF Berlin in Germany, the Zurich Diamond League in Switzerland and the Diamond League Final before flying back to Manila but had to withdraw after MRI results revealed he has a fractured L5 vertebra.
The mayor said EJ was still able to compete in two tournaments which proves his strong physical condition and mental toughness.
"His public disclosure of his injury has a firm positive tone which we, here in his hometown, will match with prayers and well wishes," she said.
Meanwhile, she mentioned the "observable relaxed and rested composure" of two-time Olympian gold medalist, Carlos Yulo.
"It looks like he is getting well-deserved rest in between his many appointments and engagements. Manila continues to be happy for Caloy. May he get more rest in the days and weeks ahead," she also said.
The mayor also expressed her birthday greetings to Gymnastics Association of the Philippines President Cynthia Carrion.
"Her tireless, patient, and devoted mentoring of Caloy was the sustaining force that helped make Caloy the man and Olympian he is today," she said.
She also thanked and commended Manuel V. Pangilinan for backing up Carrion in supporting Yulo.
"His role as the godfatherly sports patron of Caloy and the GAP brought out the best in our Olympian from Leveriza, Malate. Words are not enough to express our collective national gratitude to him and Cynthia. They too are in our prayers," she added
