Marian Rivera: Nothing wrong if Filipinos want to have fair, light skin

Kapuso star Marian Rivera stated that there is nothing wrong with Filipinos desiring to have fair or light skin, especially if it boosts their confidence.

“Wala namang masama. Depende ‘yan sa mga tao kung ano sa tingin nila ang magpapa-boost ng kumpiyansa ng sarili nila. I have nothing against sa mga gustong magpaputi, magpaganda, magpakinis," said Marian during a press conference on her latest endorsement for NuWhite held in Quezon City recently.

Marian added: "That’s normal. Sa mundo natin ngayon, walang dahilan para hindi ka maging maganda. Agree ako dun at susuportahan ko ‘yun."

At 40, Marian emphasized the importance of self-care as she gracefully embraces the process of aging.

“Wala namang masama na mag-age ka pero syempre mas maganda na mag-age ka na inaalagaan ang sarili mo. Sabi nga, kung ano ang tine-take mo, ‘yun ang nakukuha mo.

“Kailangan ‘yan. Hindi dahil sa artista ka. ‘Yun ‘yung sinasabi ko sa mga tao na anuman ang iyong trabaho, huwag mong kalilimutan ang sarili mo. Babae ka man o lalaki ka man, kailangan talaga inaalagaan mo ang sarili mo kasi dun nagsisimula ang lahat.

“Mahalagang-mahalaga na binibigyan mo ng importansya ang sarili mo bago ang lahat. Sabi ko nga, as a mom and as asawa ni Dong (Dingdong Dantes), kailangan ako mismo sa sarili ko, kumpleto ako, at mahal ko ang sarili ko at nakikita ng mga anak ko ‘yun.”

“Kasi paano ko sasabihin sa kanila na, ‘Alagaan ninyo ang sarili niyo. Kailangan maayos kayo kapag lalabas,’ pero kung makita nila na ‘yung nanay nila eh hindi nag-aayos. So sa akin pa lang, kahit wala na akong sabihin, nakikita ng mga anak ko kung paano alagaan ang sarili ko. For sure, kapag lumaki na sila, ganun din ang gagawin nila,” Marian also said.

Recently, Marian won Best Actress for "Balota" at 2024 Cinemalaya. Prior, Marian said she never expected to win any acting for her latest movie.

“Ang dasal ko ngayon ay ‘yung pasasalamat ko kay Lord sa lahat ng blessings na ibinibigay niya sa akin at sa pamilya ko. Sobra-sobrang pasasalamat na lahat kami ay healthy, masaya, at intact ‘yung pamilya namin at extended family namin. Hindi ako magsasawang magpasalamat kay Lord dun sa blessings na ‘yan.

"Yung experience na naibigay sa akin ng Cinemalaya, ‘yun pa lang, panalo na ako. Bakit nila ginagawa itong Cinemalaya? Kapag naintindihan ng mga tao kung bakit ginagawa ang Cinemalaya, mas maa-appreciate nila. Based sa experience ko sa 'Balota,' priceless, at sana maulit muli,” Marian also said.

Last July 31, Marian renewed her contract with NuWhite, a glutathione brand in the Philippines owned by entrepreneur Maureen Estrada.
