‘Habagat’ may bring less intense rains to Luzon, Visayas — PAGASA

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Thursday, Aug. 29 said the southwest monsoon, or “habagat,” may still affect parts of Luzon and Visayas.

However, PAGASA Weather Specialist Benison Estareja said the habagat rains may be less intense than the previous day.

In the next 24 hours, occasional rains may affect Zambales, Bataan, Occidental Mindoro, and Palawan, while scattered rains and thunderstorms may prevail over Metro Manila, Western Visayas, Negros Island Region, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon, Pangasinan, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, and Romblon.

Those in these areas are warned of potential flash floods or landslides during moderate to heavy rains.

PAGASA said the habagat may also bring isolated rain showers or thunderstorms to Bicol Region and the rest of Central Luzon and Visayas.

Meanwhile, the rest of the country may experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.

The public is also advised to be cautious of potential flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.

Moreover, Estareja said PAGASA is monitoring cloud clusters outside the country's area of responsibility that could develop into a low pressure area and potentially enter the region in the coming days.
