Some road sections in the provinces of Benguet and Kalinga in the Cordillera region are either impassable or have restricted access to traffic, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said on Thursday, Aug. 29.
As of 8 a.m. today, the Baguio-Bontoc Road segment K0322+990-K0323+030, which includes Pilando, Gambang, and Bakun, is reported impassable due to road cuts.
Motorists should consider alternative routes, such as Cong. Andres Acop Cosalan Road via Benguet Nueva Vizcaya Road, Abatan-Mankayan-Cervantes Road via Bessang Pass, Natubleng Nabalicong Cabuguiasan Pacso Road, and Labey Lacamen Ambuklao Road.
Vehicles from the Mountain Province are directed to use the Tadian-Cervantes Road through Bessang Pass as a detour.
“We urge motorists to exercise extreme caution while travelling due to ongoing clearing work, particularly on recently reopened or single-lane road sections,” the DPWH said.
On the other hand, four roads in the region are restricted to light vehicles only: Kennon Road, Itogon-Dalupirip Road, and Manuel S. Agyao Boulevard near Eleb Bridge in Nambaran, Tabuk City, along with the Tabuk-Banawe Road via Tanudan-Barlig Road.
The restrictions are due to ongoing rehabilitation, road slips, and damaged bridge decks.
Alternative routes include Marcos Highway, Asin-Nangalisan-San Pascual-La Union Boundary Road, Guisset-Binga Road, Rizal National Road (Romualdez-Santor-Calaocan-San Pascual), Nambaran-Isabela Road, and Calaccad-Pangol-Gombowoy Provincial Road.
The DPWH has confirmed that all national roads and bridges in Abra, Apayao, Mountain Province, and Baguio City remain open and passable.
