The Regional Epidemiology Surveillance Unit (RESU) said the patient has no history of travel.

His symptoms started on August 10. He had fever and rashes and consulted a rural health unit.

He continues to recover at home under close monitoring by health authorities.

The Health department urged continued vigilance due to the World Health Organization declaration of mpox as a public health emergency of international concern.

Mpox is an infectious disease caused by the MPXV.

It can spread between people, mainly through close contact with the skin or mucosal lesions of an infected person, by talking or breathing, kissing, touching, hugging, sexual intercourse, or respiratory secretions.

Transmissions can also occur via indirect contact with contaminated materials such as bedding, clothing, or linens, the DOH-CHD said.

Common symptoms of mpox include skin rash or mucosal lesions, which can last two to four weeks accompanied by fever, swollen lymph nodes, sore throat, muscle aches and back pain, headache, and low energy.

To prevent infection, the DOH-CHD-Calabarzon reminded the public to adhere to health protocols such as observe respiratory etiquette; wash hands frequently with soap and water or an alcohol-based hand sanitizer; refrain from contact with individuals who have mpox or manifest symptoms of mpox infection, and ensure bedding, clothing, or linens are thoroughly washed.
