City Mayor Jeannie Sandoval, along with the City Social Welfare and Development Department (CSWDD) and city councilors, led the distribution of aid.

“Ramdam namin ang bigat na dala ng pagkawala ng tahanan ng mga nasunugang pamilya kamakailan lang. Kaya agad tayong nagpaabot ng tulong pinansiyal sa kanila. Nawa ay magamit nila ito sa kanilang mga pangangailangan lalo na sa pagbuo muli ng kanilang bahay o sa paglipat man. Nandito lang ang pamahalaang lungsod upang umalalay sa inyo (We deeply feel the burden that the recent fire victims are carrying after losing their homes. That's why we quickly extended financial assistance to them. We hope this aid can be used to meet their needs, especially in rebuilding their homes or relocating. The city government is here to support you),” Sandoval said.

According to the CSWDD, families whose homes were destroyed by the fire received P10,000 each, while those who were partially affected received P5,000.

It added that the local government also provided shelter repair kits, including plywood, hammer, nails, door with door pad and doorknob, shear cutter scissors, saw, good lumber, and GI Sheet.

On August 28, the city government also distributed hot meals, family food packs including coffee and canned goods, as well as non-food items like hygiene kits and sleeping materials.

“Marami mang unos at insidente and dumaan sa ating lungsod nitong nakaraang buwan ay naipakita natin ang tatag at bayanihan ng mga Malabueño. Nagtulong-tulong tayo at  nagkaisa upang masiguro ang kaligtasan ng ating mga mahal sa buhay (Despite the many challenges and incidents that our city faced in the past month, we have demonstrated the resilience and solidarity of the Malabueños. We came together and united to ensure the safety of our loved ones),” City Administrator Alexander Rosete said.

The Bureau of Fire Protection reported that the fire, which occurred on Wednesday, August 21, was raised to first alarm at 9:40 a.m. and was extinguished by 10:13 a.m.

No fatalities were reported, the BFP added.
