WALANG PASOK: Marcos suspends public school classes, gov't work in NCR due to rainfall

Due to possible flash floods brought on by the ongoing rainfall, President Marcos suspended public school classes at all levels and work in government offices in the National Capital Region (NCR) on Wednesday morning, Aug. 28.

In a text message, Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin confirmed that the President, following the recommendation of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), declared public school classes and government work in Metro Manila suspended as of 7 a.m.

In a letter to the President, the NDRRMC cited, as a reason for the suspension, the ongoing rainfall forecast which "will bring occasional rains with possible flash floods over Metro Manila caused by the southwest monsoon."

"The recommended suspension will prevent any untoward incidents and will ensure the safety of the general public," the letter, signed by Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Administrator Undersecretary Ariel Nepomuceno, read.

Meanwhile, the suspension of classes in private schools and work in private companies is left to the discretion of their respective heads.

The suspension, however, does not cover frontline agencies engaged in emergency services.

The state weather bureau raised the Yellow Warning Level over Metro Manila, Zambales, and Bataan on Wednesday at 8 a.m. due to the southwest monsoon which may cause flooding in flood-prone areas.
