Rainy weather to persist due to enhanced ‘habagat’

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Wednesday, Aug. 28 warned that the enhanced southwest monsoon, or “habagat,” will lead to persistent rainy weather in several areas of Luzon and Visayas.

Metro Manila, Zambales, Bataan, Tarlac, Pampanga, Cavite, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro, Palawan, and Antique may continue to experience occasional monsoon rains, ranging from light to heavy.

Likewise, cloudy skies with scattered monsoon rains and thunderstorms may affect La Union, Pangasinan, Benguet, Bicol Region, Nueva Ecija, Aurora, Bulacan, Laguna, Rizal, Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and the rest of Visayas.

PAGASA warned of potential flash floods or landslides during moderate to heavy rains.

Weather Specialist Obet Badrina said the rainfall caused by the habagat may slightly decrease by midday and afternoon but could continue into the evening.

He added that rainfall is expected to decrease towards the weekend.

Meanwhile, the rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy conditions with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.

The public is also warned of possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.
