Converge coach says Hopson's game-winner 'proof of four-point line'

- "This is the proof of the four-point line. Without the four-point line, we are going to overtime and I don't know our chances in overtime," said Converge head coach Franco Atienza after the game
Back when it was first announced to be implemented in the PBA, there was an uncertainty whether the four-point shot would benefit the league any good.

But for Converge, at least for a night, the four-point shot felt like heaven-sent as they got the chance to win it despite trailing by three in the waning seconds.
And they did, as Scotty Hopson drilled the game-winning four-pointer over the outstretched arms of Glenn Khobuntin for a 96-95 win.
“This is the proof of the four-point line. Without the four-point line, we are going to overtime and I don't know our chances in overtime,” said Converge head coach Franco Atienza after the game.
“It’s good that we got someone who can shoot that long-range shot and it’s available for us. Because if it’s not available, there’s no way you could win that on a three-pointer,” he added.
While elated with the first game-winning four in history, Atienza lauded the rest of the team for grinding it out from 16 points down and giving itself a chance to win it on the final possession.
“We just grinded it out, we stuck to the system and did what we do the best. We just gave ourselves a chance to win in the end game and that's what's most important. We want that chance in the end game,” said the new coach.
Asked about the final shot, Atienza revealed that the four-pointer was really the first option on that well-drawn play. And there was no better player to take it than Hopson as aside from drilling three four-pointers in the past game, had already hit one in the third quarter of that game.
He finished with 32 points spiked by two fours to go along with his 10 rebounds to get the last laugh in his intriguing duel with TNT’s Rondae Hollis-Jefferson who also had 32 points.
“It was that one,” said Atienza, referring to the four-point shot as their option.
“Go for the kill and it’s just nice that it is available for us . It was tried by Glenn Robinson. That’s a nice innovation, might as well use it. It was available to use it ,” he added.
