The plan was discussed by Gov. Aris Aumentado during a meeting with officials of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR)-Bohol.
Present in the meeting were BIR-Bohol Revenue District Officer (RDO) Debbie Angeles Garcia and Assistant RDO Jaime S. de Guzman.
Provincial Administrator Aster Caberte, a former Assistant Secretary of the Department of Trade of Industry (DTI), also attended the meeting.
Aumentado said steps have to be taken to help the province’s business sector, especially in Panglao, boom.
“We want our business sector in Panglao to flourish. We want to make sure that businesses in Panglao, especially hotels and resorts, foreign or local, are compliant with their obligations with the BIR by paying the right taxes and having BIR-registered receipts,” said Aumentado.
Aumentado suggested to the BIR-Bohol to create a task force that will focus on monitoring businesses not just in Panglao but also in the entire province.
“If they already have an existing task force, then they have to make sure that it is actively working,” Aumentado said.
In the meeting, Caberte emphasized the need for the BIR and DTI to work hand-in-hand for an efficient and effective collection of taxes.
“That’s why it's important to have these coordination meetings at the local level so we can connect with each other and have proper coordination when it comes to collection of taxes and other revenues,” Aumentado said.
