Western Visayas registers 3,490 dengue cases in 1 week


ILOILO CITY – The Department of Health-6 logged 3,490 dengue cases in the Western Visayas region from August 11 to 17.

Dr. Bea Camille Fillaro-Natalaray, medical coordinator for emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases, said in a press conference on Tuesday, August 27, that seven deaths were recorded during the period.

Western Visayas has 15,688 dengue cases from January 1 to August 17 with 31 deaths.

Iloilo province, which is under a state of calamity, has the highest number of new dengue cases for the week with 1,315, followed by Negros Occidental province with 547, 408 in Guimaras province, 330 in Capiz province, 258 in Aklan province, 253 in Iloilo City, 196 in Bacolod City, and 183 in Antique province.

Five of the fatalities were from Iloilo and two in Capiz.

The DOH-6 is closely coordinating with local government units (LGUs) for response mechanisms to reduce the number of dengue cases.
