Wanted mayor in Albay surrenders


LEGAZPI CITY, Albay - Mayor Carlwyn "Awin" Baldo of Daraga, Albay, who is facing two counts of murder over the killing of Ako Bicol party-list Rep. Rodel Batocabe and security aide Police Master Sgt. Orlando Diaz in 2018,  surrendered to the Camalig, Albay Municipal Police Station on Monday night, August 26.

Police Major Carlo Dy,  Camalig MPS chief, said that Baldo surrendered around 11 p.m.  Baldo was accompanied by brother Mayor Carlos of Camalig.

"Ang may hawak po ng warrant of arrest ay CIDG Albay at dito na po naiserve sa kanya kagabi. Pansamantala, dito muna siya naka-custody," Dy said.

(The CIDG-Albay holds his warrant of arrest which was served last night. He is temporarily under our custody)

He added that he will wait for the commitment order for Mayor Carlwyn.

Acting Presiding Judge Acerey Pacheco of the National Capital Region (NCR) Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 3  issued a warrant of arrest with no bail recommended against Mayor Carlywn dated August 21, 2024.

Police served the document at his residence in Barangay Tagas in Daraga but he was not around.

Mayor Carlwyn, in his official Facebook account, said that he believes that he will overcome this trial.
