VP Sara won't name solons who told her about her impeachment
Vice President Sara Duterte on Tuesday, Aug. 27, refused to drop the names of her lawmaker-friends who revealed to her information that an impeachment case against her is imminent in the House of Representatives.

During the budget hearing for the Office of the Vice President’s (OVP) proposed 2025 budget, the official affirmed that there were discussions about a possible impeachment against her.
“Bilang isang kaibigan (As a friend), I will not violate the confidence of a few members of the House of Representatives who have either recorded conversations or participated in shared conversations regarding impeachment proceedings against me,” she said in her opening speech.
But the official stressed that “this is nothing new" since "talks of impeachment have been ongoing for several months now.”
She said that one lawmaker has “publicly declared” that an impeachment case against her would be based on her spending of the P125-million in confidential funds back in 2022.
“Surprisingly, despite the absence of proof as to any wrongdoing, she has already revealed the grounds for impeachment when she was also quoted as saying: "Especially on the misuse of public funds, technical malversation, and violation of the 1987 Constitution,” Duterte added.
In November 2023, Deputy Minority leader and ACT Teachers Party-list Rep. France Castro claimed that there were impeachment talks regarding Duterte, though she was quick to clarify these were “not serious” and “premature.”
She also said that the House leadership, headed by Speaker Martin Romualdez, is not part of the discussions.
But Castro’s statements came before the Vice President officially severed ties with President Marcos’ Cabinet in July and before she criticized the administration for its shortcomings.
After revealing there are plans to impeach her as shared by her friends in the lower chamber, lawmakers challenged the official to name her supposed “friends” in the House.
