Muntinlupa Mayor Ruffy Biazon reminded people to keep their surroundings clean and avoid littering to prevent flooding.
Biazon said declogging by the city government of drainage lines in various parts of the city revealed that these were clogged with trash that contributed to flooding.

He said the city government conducted declogging in May and June in major flood-prone areas of Muntinlupa.
However, after a few months, the drainage lines were again found to be clogged with plastic bottles and trash.
On Aug. 25, heavy rains caused flooding in some parts of Muntinlupa.
“Mula kahapon hanggang ngayong araw malakas ang buhos ng ulan at hindi makadaloy ng mabuti dahil sa bara. Ito ang ating pinalinis ulit. We ordered it to be cleaned again (From yesterday to today, there was a downpour and rainwater could not flow well because of the clog),” Biazon posted on Facebook on Aug. 26.
He said drainage lines were clogged because of trash that resulted in flooding.
“Kung iisipin, kanino ba nanggaling ang mga basura na yan? Sa atin din diba? Mula sa mga taong pabaya sa mga basurang sila din ang nag produce. Mga taong walang pakialam sa nakakalat na basura dahil hindi naman daw sila ang nagkalat (If you think about it, where did the trash come from? From us, righ? From people who are careless about the trash that they produced. People who don’t care about the trash around them because they said they were not the ones who littered),” he added.
Biazon reminded people that cleanliness is everyone’s responsibility.
“Tama na yung ‘Tapat ko linis ko.’ Dapat ‘Paligid natin, linis natin.’ Yan ang isa sa mga pagbabago na kailangan natin,” he said.
He said flooding will happen if people will not be active in cleaning their surroundings, will not follow solid waste management and do not have discipline.
