Metro Manila, 8 other areas to experience scattered rains due to 'habagat'
The southwest monsoon, known locally as “habagat,” is expected to bring rains and thunderstorms to Metro Manila, parts of Southern Luzon, and some areas of Western Visayas over the next 24 hours, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Tuesday, Aug. 17.
PAGASA said scattered monsoon rains and thunderstorms may particularly affect Metro Manila, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan, Cavite, Batangas, and Antique.
PAGASA warned of potential flash floods or landslides during moderate to heavy rains in these areas.
Meanwhile, partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms may affect Bicol Region, Laguna, Rizal, Quezon, and the rest of Visayas due to the habagat.
PAGASA said similar conditions are expected in the rest of the country due to localized thunderstorms.
The public is also warned of possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.
Weather Specialist Rhea Torres added that PAGASA has not monitored any low pressure areas or tropical cyclones within the country’s area of responsibility as of Tuesday.
However, she said chances of rain showers due to localized thunderstorms remain high.
