GMA Kapuso Foundation (GMAKF), the socio-civic arm of GMA Network, recently received a P4 million donation from the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

The donation was formally handed over by AFP Chief of Staff Gen. Romeo Brawner, Jr. to GMAKF Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer Rikki Escudero-Catibog during the “Sagip Dugtong Buhay” bloodletting event held on Aug. 17 at Ever Gotesco Mall, Commonwealth Avenue, Quezon City.

This donation was made possible by the voluntary contribution of AFP soldiers, who set aside Php 50 from their daily subsistence allowance of Php 150—the equivalent of one meal—for this cause. The AFP donation drive raised enough funds – half went towards providing assistance to AFP soldiers who were directly affected by Super Typhoon Carina, while the other half was donated to GMA Kapuso Foundation for other Carina survivors.

The AFP’s donation will be directed towards GMAKF's post-Super Typhoon Carina rehabilitation projects, particularly building classrooms in economically challenged, hard-hit areas.

"Sagip Dugtong Buhay" is a bi-annual bloodletting initiative spearheaded by GMAKF in partnership with the Philippine Red Cross and Ever Gotesco Mall/Go Tong Foundation. The project promotes volunteerism through blood donation, ultimately helping to save and extend lives.
