Ayala Group opens Makati data center

ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (STT GDC) Philippines opened its upgraded facility in Makati City as part of its expansion efforts to raise data center capacity in response to increasing demand.

STT GDC is a joint venture between Globe Telecom, Ayala Corporation, and ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (STT GDC), one of Singapore’s fastest-growing data center service providers.

Data Hall F of STT Makati, formerly Globe MK2 Data Center, was launched after renovations and expansion. It showcased the company’s dedication to enhancing its service offerings and capacity to meet clients' data needs. STT Makati has a total IT load capacity of over 5MW.

Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Secretary Ivan John Uy pointed out that establishing the new data centers solidifies the country's status as a rising data center hub in the region.

Globe President and CEO and STT GDC Philippines Board Director Ernest Cu said data centers are integral to Globe's operations, providing essential infrastructure that underpins its digital services and solutions.

“As we expand STT GDC Philippines, we get closer to our dream of turning the Philippines into a preferred location for hyperscalers in Southeast Asia, driving digitalization and uplifting the lives of Filipinos by creating more opportunities for them,” said Cu.

ACMobility CEO and STT GDC Philippines Board Director Jaime Alfonso Zobel de Ayala also emphasized the importance of data centers in Ayala Corporation's portfolio.

He noted how they drive digital transformation and infrastructure development by attracting international enterprises and supporting local businesses.

“Our goal is to support positioning the Philippines as a regional hub for data storage. As we see growth in the data center business, we are constantly on the lookout for ways that we can harness the synergies across the Ayala group to make sure that we’re positioning this as best as possible,” said Zobel.

STT GDC President and Group CEO and Board Director of STT GDC Philippines Bruno Lopez said they aim to create a robust, sustainable, and interconnected digital infrastructure that positions the Philippines as a competitive player in the regional and global digital economy.

“The rapid advancements in AI and digital infrastructure will transform the way we live, work, and do business. Together, we are building the foundation for the Philippines of tomorrow—a future where our world-class data centers drive economic growth and innovation across Southeast Asia,” he added.

Meanwhile, construction of STT Fairview and STT Cavite 2 are on track following commencement of construction in 2023. 

STT Fairview, slated to be operational by 2025, is set to become the largest data center in the Philippines, with an impressive IT capacity of 124MW once fully built out. 

Designed to be the most interconnected and carrier-neutral data center campus, it will offer seamless connectivity while incorporating sustainable practices and advanced energy-efficient technologies.

STT Cavite 2, the company’s second data center facility at the General Trias business park, is expected to deliver up to 6MW of total IT capacity.
