It's "treasonous" for lawyer Harry Roque to call for a people power to unseat President Marcos, House Committee on Human Rights Chairman Manila 6th district Rep. Bienvenido "Benny" Abante Jr. said.

"Sa akin (For me), it might also be treasonous eh. Because he's now calling for people power to topple down the present administration, Abante said.

The veteran solon was reacting to Roque's continued tirades against the Marcos administration after the latter was cited for contempt and ordered detained in the House of Representatives by the quad-committee (quad-comm).

"Eh hindi naman siguro tama ‘yong ganoon ‘di ba? (I don't think that's the right thing to do, correct?) I mean, it's one thing to be able to rally against the government, it is another thing to say, let us come together so we could be able to topple down this government," he said.

An public upheaval against President Marcos can be considered a pipe dream because of the Philippine leader's immense popularity .

Marcos, the darling of the north, receiving a whopping 31million votes in the May 2022 president race, en route to a rare majority vote victory.

This is nearly twice the number votes garnered by ex-president Rodrigo Duterte six years prior. Roque was the presidential spokesperson during the Duterte administration.

Abante is one of the four chairmen of rhe quad-comm. Last week, Roque was detained for 24 hours in the House for lying about his excuse over his failure to attend a previous hearing of the special four-way panel.

The quad-comm is looking into the interconnected issues of Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGO), illegal drugs, and extrajudicial killings during Duterte's tenure.
