Boatman, cow killed by lightning

CAMP FLORENDO, La Union – A 28-year-old boatman and a cow were killed by lightning in Pangasinan and Ilocos Norte on Sunday, August 25.

Police said the boatman Jun and his companion were in the middle of national park Hundreds Island in Alaminos City, Pangasinan, and about to reach Quezon Island to fetch their passengers when they were struck by lightning during a thunderstorm.

The victim slumped on the floor of the boat unconscious and was brought to a hospital where he was declared dead.

The cow was staying under a tree in Sitio 4 Barangay 21, Sarrat, Ilocos Norte when it was hit during a thunderstorm. It sustained serious burns and died on the spot.
