Bersamin on Quiboloy hunt: Law must take its course

Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin said the law must take its course in the pursuit against Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) leader Apollo Quiboloy, stressing that "he is answerable to the law."

"The law must take its course," Bersamin said in an interview on the sidelines of the commemoration of National Heroes Day at the Libingan ng mga Bayani on Monday, Aug. 26, when sought for a comment on the ongoing hunt for Quiboloy.

"He is answerable to the law. The law must take its course. Meron namang process diyan (There is a process for that)," Bersamin added.

Quiboloy is facing offenses relating to human trafficking and child abuse. Around 3,000 policemen trooped to the KOJC compound in Davao City to implement the arrest warrant against the fugitive pastor.

Bersamin also dismissed claims that the hunt on Quiboloy, particularly the recent incident in Davao City, was politically motivated.

"Madaling sabihin na politically motivated pero hindi naman totoo 'yon (It's easy to say that it is politically motivated but it is not true)," Bersamin said.

Meanwhile, the Executive Secretary was also asked to respond to Vice President Sara Duterte's statement after the serving of the warrant on Quiboloy, where at least one supporter of the pastor died.

"No comment ako diyan (I have no comment about that)," the Palace official said.

It can be recalled that on Sunday, Aug. 25, the Vice President asked forgiveness from members of KOJC for asking them to vote for President Marcos in the 2022 elections.
