Iloilo City fetes outstanding Ilonggos

ILOILO CITY – The city government awarded outstanding Ilonggos as part of its 87th Charter Day celebration.

“We gathered to honor the extraordinary achievements of our fellow Ilonggos,” said Mayor Jerry Treñas.

Bestowed the Diamond Lifetime Achievement award were former Iloilo Gov. Arthur “Art” Defensor Sr. for government service, Honorato “Tatoy” Espinosa for culinary, and Edgar “Injap” Sia II for business.

The lifetime achievement award was given to former Department of Tourism Secretary Narzalina “Narz” Lim, Rex Drilon II, Sandra Sarabia-Gomez, Vicente Tiu, and Fanny L. Uy. The late Marcelino M. Florete Jr. received a posthumous lifetime achievement award.

Also feted were 10 Outstanding Ilonggos of Iloilo City – retired Supreme Court Associate Justice Francis H. Jardeleza, retired Philippine Navy Vice Admirals Alexander Pama and Giovanni Carlo J. Bacordo, Department of Science and Technology-6 Regional Director Rowen R. Gelonga, Dr. Erlinda S. Ganzon-Naret, Dr. Bernadette Jardiolin Madrid, University of the Philippines-Visayas Chancellor Clement Camposano, Atty. Jobert Afable Peñaflorida, Atty. Jose Mari Benjamin Francisco U. Tirol, and Prof. Hazel Palmares Villa.
