'Habagat' persists, bringing scattered rains to parts of the Philippines
Cloudy and rainy weather may prevail over parts of the country as the southwest monsoon, or “habagat,” persists, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Sunday, Aug. 25.
PAGASA warned of possible flash floods or landslides in Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan, Western Visayas, Negros Island Region, Zamboanga Peninsula, Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi due to scattered light to heavy monsoon rains and thunderstorms.
The rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.
The public should also be alert for potential flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.
PAGASA Weather Specialist Grace Castañeda added that the typhoon, with an international name “Shanshan,” located 1,980 kilometers east-northeast of extreme northern Luzon, is not expected to enter the Philippine area of responsibility or affect the country.
However, she said PAGASA is monitoring cloud clusters west of Southern Luzon that may develop into a low pressure area.
