BTS’ Suga releases handwritten apology

BTS member Suga, who is suspected of drunk driving, released a second apology through a handwritten letter on Aug. 25.

Suga is being investigated by the police for drinking and driving an electric scooter on the night of Aug. 6 in Seoul.

He issued his first apology on the Weverse app on Aug. 7.

Suga, who is fulfilling his military service as a social service agent, was summoned by the police and was questioned for three hours about the incident at the Seoul Yongsan Police Station on Aug. 23.

In his handwritten apology uploaded on Weverse, Suga said, “I would like to apologize to you again with a shameful heart.”

“I deeply apologize for disappointing and hurting my fans and everyone who loves me with my wrongdoings. I forgot my sense of responsibility to repay the love I've received and made a big mistake,” he said.

He said, “On the night of August 6, I made the mistake of riding an electric scooter on the sidewalk after drinking. I also apologize for the confusion caused by my first apology that I hastily uploaded on the 7th. I should have thought more deeply and been more careful, but I didn't.”

“It's all my fault. My carelessness is making it difficult for everyone who cares about me. I will try not to make the wrongdoings again and live my life repenting,” he said.

“Because of this incident, I have tarnished the precious memories I've made with the members and fans and have tarnished the name of BTS. I am so sorry and in pain that it is hard to express how much I have hurt the members and the team,” he said.

Suga added, “I am sorry that the members who always believed in me have had a hard time because of me. And I also know very well how disappointed the fans who supported and cheered me on must have felt. I am sorry to the fans who have always given me so much love despite my shortcomings.”

“I know that it is difficult to heal the wounds and disappointments the fans have received with any words, so I deeply regret it and reflect with a heavy heart every day. Once again sincerely apologize to the fans who have been hurt because of me,” he said.

According to him, “I will gladly accept any punishment that is given in the future, as well as criticism and reprimands. Lastly, I once again bow my head in sincerity and apologize for causing social controversy and disappointing many people.”

During his appearance at the police station, Suga was accompanied by lawyer Chae Jae Hoon, who defended former Super Junior Kangin in his DUI case in 2016.
