The 29-year-old boxer was warmly welcomed in her hometown, basking in the glory of her recent success in the French capital along with fellow medalists Carlos Yulo and Nesthy Petecio.

For her feat, House Speaker and Leyte 1st District Rep. Martin Romualdez and his wife, Tingog party-list Rep. Yedda Maria Romualdez, gifted Villegas a house and lot, and a car worth P7.4 million.

Tacloban City Mayor Alfred Romualdez and Hiray Foundation also gave P1 million each for Villegas. The rewards were added to the long list of bonuses she had received after her Paris achievement.

The boxer vowed to give back to her hometown as she pledged to shoulder the training uniforms of Tacloban athletes.

“Marami din po kasing kabataan na walang uniform, gaya ko po nung nag-start ako,” said Villegas last Tuesday’s PSA Forum inside Rizal Memorial Complex in Manila.

“Isi-share ko po sa mga athletes na walang uniform and shoes na naglalaro din po,” she added.
