Teenage girl dies in Batangas City fire

BATANGAS CITY – A 13-year-old girl died in a fire in Purok 2, Barangay San Carlos, this city, before dawn on Thursday, August 22.

Arson investigators said the victim, Meagan May Gabuna, was awakened by thick smoke inside her house at 2:45 a.m.

She alerted her and another family staying in the house. However, she was trapped and her remains were recovered in mopping-up operations.

Fire out was declared at 3:41 a.m.

Damage to property was placed at P120,000. Cause of the fire was a lighted candle inside victim’s bedroom.

Meanwhile, 24 families lost their homes in a fire caused by a defective appliance in Biñan City, Laguna, on Thursday.

The Bureau of Fire Protection and residents joined hands to put out the fire.

No casualties were reported and damage to property is yet to be undetermined.
