‘Habagat’ to affect parts of western Philippines this long weekend

The southwest monsoon (habagat) may bring rains and thunderstorms to some areas, particularly the western parts of the country, during the long weekend, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said in its weather outlook for Aug. 23 to 30.

On Friday, Aug. 23 (Ninoy Aquino Day), PAGASA said Zamboanga Peninsula, Palawan, Occidental Mindoro, Antique, Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi may experience mostly cloudy skies with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms due to the habagat.

The rest of the country may have partly cloudy to cloudy skies, with afternoon or evening rain showers or thunderstorms.

From Saturday to Monday, Aug. 24 to 26 (National Heroes Day), mostly cloudy skies with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms may occur in Zamboanga Peninsula, Western Visayas, Negros Island Region, Palawan, and Occidental Mindoro.

Meanwhile, the rest of the country may continue to experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies, with afternoon or evening rain showers or thunderstorms.

From Tuesday to Friday, Aug. 27 to 30, the habagat may bring mostly cloudy skies with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms to Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan, Cavite, Aklan, Antique, and Guimaras.

The rest of the archipelago may experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening.

Based on the weather outlook, the country may remain tropical cyclone-free until next Friday.
