TACLOBAN CITY – The Tingog party-list paid tribute to Paris Olympics boxing bronze medalist Aira Villegas and Palarong Pambansa athletes from Eastern Visayas at the People’s Center here on Friday, August 23, following a hero’s welcome for her by the city government.

Tingog Rep. Yedda Marie Romualdez, who called Villegas a hero, ensured that all her sacrifices and experiences will be worth it.
“We are more inspired to support our athletes, especially since we already have a bronze medalist,” Romualdez said.
She congratulated the Palarong Pambansa athletes. Each athlete, parent, and coach received P10,000. Medalists received special incentives.
Romualdez lauded Villegas and her family and her team who helped her in her accomplishment.
Villegas thanked Tingog, her supporters, and her brother who trained her since she was nine.
She advised athletes not to compare themselves to others because God will let them wait for what is best for them.
Villegas received a total of P2 million from the city government.

PARIS Olympics boxing bronze medalist Aira Villegas on Friday, August 23, received a P6-million house and lot in Camella Homes, Palo, Leyte, and a brand new Mitsubishi Xpander during a tribute for her and Palarong Pambansa athletes organized by Tingog party-list in Tacloban City, Leyte.
Also present during the event was Karla Estrada, consultant on social services and promotions of the office of House Speaker Martin Romualdez and Department of Education-8 Regional Director Evelyn Fetalvero.
Fetalvero said their goal is to produce another Olympic medalist like Villegas who she cited for inspiring young athletes.
