BACOLOD CITY – A one-day old baby boy abandoned by his mother was found in Purok Guanzon, Barangay Mansilingan here on Wednesday, August 21.

Police Capt. Greeky Cayao, head of Police Station 7, said the baby wrapped in a cloth was discovered by children looking for spiders in the area around 6:30 p.m.
Cayao said the baby was left by his 22-year-old mother on the roadside after they were discharged from a lying-in clinic in the afternoon.
The baby’s 21-year-old father went to the police station after learning of the incident to claim his son.
But police turned over the custody of the baby to his grandmother while the child’s mother undergoes an assessment.
According to the father, he assisted his live-in partner and his son to ride a taxi from the clinic to their house as he had to drop by somewhere to buy diapers and milk, Cayao said.
Cayao said the mother who was identified through one of the barangay officials who knew her parents said that she abandoned her baby because she felt scared if her parents would know she is pregnant.
However, according to the family, the baby is her second child.
Cayao said the social worker has to assess the mother because she could suffering from post-partum depression.
