In a meeting with the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP), Singson said that many ranking government officials encouraged him to run for senator but he was thinking twice because of his age.

But when former President Rodrigo Duterte encouraged him to run and assured him of support from Mindanao, he was convinced and decided to run.

Singson said he was honored by Duterte convincing and believing in his capability to run.

He said that he asked permission from his family, local government units, and mayors’ and governors’ leagues to run and gained their full support.

Meanwhile, Singson belied a report about the maltreatment and abuse of animals at Baluarte Zoo here that became a viral issue.

Singson, an avid animal lover, said that it is a grave offense if an animal is harmed especially those under the Baluarte Zoo.

He said that he would terminate any staff suspected of animal abuse.

Baluarte Zoo has apologized about the issue.
