Though the 28-year-old Marcial will now pursue his career in the pro ranks, the two-time Olympian is not entirely shutting down the idea of a third try in the Los Angeles Games in 2028.

“I am not closing my doors in wanting to achieve my ultimate dream, which is to win an Olympic gold medal,” Marcial wrote on his post Wednesday, Aug. 21.

“But I think I’m making the right decision to pour my focus into my professional career, and in continuing to bring honor to our country,” he added.

The SEAG multi-champion hinted on a possible fight in December.

“I guess I’ll see you guys back in the ring in December,” he concluded.

The pride of Zamboanga, a Tokyo Games bronze medalist, absorbed a painful 5-0 defeat in Round of 16 of the men’s 80kg class against Uzbek Turabek Khabibullaev.

Carlo Paalam, silver medal winner in the Japanese capital three years ago, had a similar fate in men's featherweight while Nesthy Petecio (women's featherweight) and debutant Aira Villegas (women’s flyweight) took bronze honors.

For her maiden Olympic appearance, Hergie Bacyadan succumbed in the round of 16 of the women’s middleweight class.
