Comparing the anti-drug campaigns of the previous Duterte administration and the current Marcos government, Lanao del Norte 1st district Rep. Khalid Dimaporo says he prefers the latter.
Speaking in a press conference, Dimaporo hailed President Marcos' anti-drug drive for being relatively bloodless and "by the book".
"So if you ask me if there’s a comparison between the two you know, the two administrations take on its war on drugs, this [Marcos] administration is by the book, by the process," the Mindanao lawmaker said.
"We have to believe in our justice system. I think that’s the message of our President and this current administration. We cannot, you know, deal with criminality by becoming criminals ourselves," added Dimaoro, a solon known to be unafraid to speak his mind.
"I think that’s the message of our President. So do I prefer this, yes, because at least you know what the right and wrong is," he further said.
Dimaporo insinuated that those killed in the past in connection with the illegal drug trade was just used for "propaganda".
"You know we can spare innocent lives from being killed just for actually propaganda,
'Oh may ginawa kami. May pinatay kami na ano, na mga drug lords (Oh we did something. We killed drug lords) or if you, this is how serious we are when it comes to the war on drugs. 'We will slaughter everybody in the household,'" he said.
Dimaporo's remarks were in reference to the Parojinog clan of Ozamiz City.
On July 30, 2017, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) and the Ozamiz City police conducted a simultaneous raid in the house of the Parojinogs and other associated properties, leaving 15 persons killed, including incumbent Mayor Reynaldo Parojinog and his wife.
President Rodrigo Duterte's six-year term lasted from 2016 to 2022. His signature campaign was his bloody war on drugs.
"So, you know everybody has their own style, I prefer this one (Marcos) its very clear, government has protocols, has standards to follow, we have our justice system, you know that’s the way the drug war should be fought," Dimaporo said.
